Here’s hoping we all get the option to enjoy it that way one day. I quite enjoyed it, I’ll admit, and I’m sure it’s going to look smashing on nice big screens. Not only did this promo confirm Disney’s intent to give the film a release in UK cinemas – if they’re open, that is, and I wouldn’t bet on this just yet – it also gave us a good look at what the movie entails. The only crappy option would be to pirate the film and not pay for it at all.Ī new trailer for Raya landed last week. Of course, there’s no right answer – it’s hardly worth discussing at all. There’s bound to be a lot of online chatter with people expressing their intent to either pay the premium and watch Raya in March, or to simply wait until June. Pixar’s Soul, you may recall, went straight to the service on Christmas day with no uplift pricing. That means anybody wanting to see the film at home between its March release and 4 June will be paying the Premier Access charge, as was the case with the live action Mulan last year. If its story is to be believed, the film’s premium rate release window expires on 5 June 2021. The snoops at a Disney+ blog are reporting HTML on the streaming service’s website gives away its no-surcharge premiere date for Raya And The Last Dragon. All this combined makes Raya a good, but not great, family adventure.Disney animated movie Raya And The Last Dragon looks set to have a three month ‘Premier Access’ window on Disney+. I loved how by the end of the film Raya has a whole troupe of misfits. Obviously Awkwafina is a ton of fun, but ever other random side character who joins the adventure has personality as well. It is it's own unique world with it's own unique set of characters and environments, and it was a fun place to explore. Some people have drawn comparisons between this world and the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender, and while there are some similarities, to dismiss it outright because of that is pretty minimialistic. What did work for me though is GORGEOUS visuals and a stunning world. That on top of its aggressively heavy-handed messaging that just didn't work for me personally keep it from being an all time classic. Not saying that as a bad thing, the formula works, but sometimes Raya can feel a bit like it's going through the motions of an adventure rather than feeling like a true adventure. Ancient lands, swashbuckling hero, magical sidekick who speaks in pop culture references, all that stuff is here. Think of Raya kind of like a modern take on Aladdin.
